Purpose
This article specifies the Teradici-recommended encryption algorithm and bandwidth metrics for various setups of zero clients, soft clients, and soft and hard hosts for VMware View with PCoIP.
Resolution
For View 4.0.1:
- PCoIP Software client (VMware View) -------> VM default=AES128 (Salsa20 is preferred)
- Zero-client (VMware View) -------> VM default=AES128 (Salsa20 is preferred)
For View 4.5 and later:
- PCoIP Software client (VMware View) -------> VM default=Salsa20
- Zero-client (VMware View) -------> VM default=Salsa20
- PCoIP Software client (VMware View) -------> Hard-Host Card default=AES128 (Salsa20 is preferred)
- Zero-client (VMware View) -------> Hard-Host Card default=AES128 (supports speeds up to 220Mbps)
Salsa20 256-bit supports speeds up to ~20Mbps (see Note 1).
Note 1: Soft-client (VMware View) ------->Soft or Hard Host can exceed ~20Mbps regardless of encryption, although this depends on the performance of the client hardware.
Using Security Gateway View 4.6 and later:
- Zero-client -------> VMware View Security Gateway------->4.6 or later VM default=AES
Note: Must be AES128 on both ends.
- PCoIP Software client -------> VMware View Security Gateway------->4.6 or later VM default=AES
Note: Must be AES128 on both ends.
- Zero-client (VMware View) -------> VMware View Security Gateway------->Hard-Host Card default=AES128
AES 128-bit supports speeds up to ~7Mbps max due to the encryption required on the zero client to work with security gateway.
Salsa20 256-bit supports speeds up to ~20Mbps (see Note 1).
Note 1: Soft-client (VMware View) ------->Soft or Hard Host can exceed ~20Mbps regardless of encryption, although this depends on the performance of the client hardware.
Using Hard PCoIP portal to connect to PCoIP host card:
- Zero-client ------> Hard-Host Card default=AES128
- AES128 in this configuration supports up to ~220Mbps throughput.
